Change of Plans

My 12 year old sister was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on April 1. Needless to say, my thoughts are centered around helping her to transition to her new life. Therefore, I’m going to put the series of posts that I was planning on hold indefinitely. Doing what I can to help her is more important than this diabetes blog.

With that said, I’m not disappearing from the Diabetes Online Community. The DOC is essential for my well-being.

  1. I’m sorry to hear about your sister and what a cruel April Fool’s joke. You know she’ll be fine because you are and most of us are strong enough to thrive despite T1. But it surely would be nice if she didn’t have to deal with diabetes….

    1. Thanks!

Type 1 Diabetes is the cruelest April Fools joke she’s ever experience, and my worst Christmas present. 😉

I’m sure that she’ll adapt to living with T1D. So far, she has done a remarkable job coping with it.

  2. Oh man, this is a tough one. Like Laddie said, I know she’ll be fine, but it’s still a struggle I hate to see forced upon people. I wish her all the best.

    1. I agree. Transitioning from one way of life to another is challenging. Fortunately, she has many things going for her: maturity, having a brother/parents who’ve gone through it already, access to healthcare, etc. I’m confident that she will grow as a person due to her experiences with this condition.

  3. Wow, this is rather unfortunate. If one of my family members ended up on my path I don’t know what I would do. I commend you!!! you are awesome. JUST AWESOME!
You know she is lucky to not have to go through this experience the way you did and that means a lot.

    1. Yes..she is lucky to not have to go through everything I did. I’m also glad that I recently began reflecting on diabetes in greater depth. I’m in a better position to help her because of it.
